Product Description

The eVent Compression Drysack earned a Backpacker Editors' Choice Award in 2007, and there is no question that it's still a winner today.

Made from a sturdy 70D Nylon waterproof fabric in the body and lid, with an eVent waterproof but air-permeable base that allows air to be pushed out of the sack. No need for a purge valve, making these lighter and simpler. The four compression straps, use hypalon roll-top non-wicking closure. These dry sacks are the epitome of durability, versatility, and compression.

I initially bought a Large to hold my Kelty -20 sleeping bag. After starting to compress it, I quickly realized that I could fit much more than my sleeping bag into the sack. I could fit a tent, or all of my winter clothing (down jacket, sweaters, long underwear, socks, mits.) Thus, I'll have to disagree with another reviewer who wrote that they are smaller than you think. The large was much bigger than I had imagined.
I'll be backpacking in South America for almost a year soon, and it's very convenient to be able to keep cold-weather things in one, organized, compressed, waterproof bag. I won't need a down jacket in the Amazon rainforest...I will put a silica pack in it before compressing it, to make sure any incidental moisture doesn't cause problems within the bag.
I just received my second Sea to Summit eVent Compression Dry Sack, this time a small. Having realized the extent of the compression of the Large, I couldn't help but imagine how much smaller I can make clothing in my bag. I probably could have gotten a cheaper compression sack where I'm not paying for waterproofing, but waterproof bags can come in handy no matter what situation you're in.
The bags seem very well built and after having used and compressed them several times, I'm not worried about putting force into the compression and stressing the seams/straps. I just put four beach towels in the small, compressed it to the size of a small watermelon, and dunked it in the pool for about 5 minutes. The towels were totally dry. However, when you open the bag, drops of water will obviously fall in.
Highly recommended for backpackers.

I bought the X-Large for compressing a down British military surplus sleeping bag. It works very well and compresses to about half its size with the straps pulled in all the way. The EVent fabric releases air slowly taking a good 5 minutes of work to compress it down fully. I have no word on how well the water resistance works. I will update if I find it less than stellar. Strange though the instructions say to not submerge the sack and to hand-wash only.

The buckles and straps seem to be heavy enough for the application.

I use the 30 liter Sea to Summit Dry Sack in conjunction with a Coghlan's compression sack to protect my sleeping bag.
The Sea to Summit provides protection from water, but it seems too wimpy to compress down completely. I am afraid it will tear if I compress it to the max.
I put my sleeping bag loosely inside the Sea to Summit Dry Sack. Then I put them into the Coghlan's compression sack. I then cinch down the Coghlan's compression sack.
Once my water bladder sprang a leak inside my backpack, dumping 3 liters of water. The water soaked through the Coghlans's compression sack, but the Sea to Summit Dry Sack saved my sleeping bag. The temps dropped to 45F that night. I was glad to have a dry sleeping bag.

Took this (in size MEDIUM) with me on a six-week Appalachian Trail backpacking hike. During the day, it held my -20 degree Big Agnes Long mummy sleeping bag and while I slept, it served as my bear bag. Anyone who has hiked the Appalachian Trail knows that it rains just about every day and every night. When my friend's bear bag got stuck in a tree, I let her hang her food in my bag. Filled to capacity and hanging all night long in a torrential downpour, this bag kept everything secure and dry. This bag NEVER ONCE let any of its contents get wet and it held my rather large sleeping bag easily. I am considering getting the Large sak, just in case . . . Other bags may be more colorful, but if bright colors is what you're after, buy crayons; if you want the best of what this bag was designed to provide, what are you waiting for? Oh, and the person who could not fit his/her warm weather sleeping bag into this sak, what the ?

The bag is wonderful. It shrinks very easily (but slowly) into a small size. The bag is water resistant but I wouldn't count on it be perfect underwater by itself. The bag's material is very thin and can rip easily with a sharp object so be careful what you put in the bag. This bag isn't durable so it can't be thrown around or tossed on the ground without fear of damage from any objects on the ground like rocks and sticks. Over all this is great especially on canoeing trips and camping trips where space is precious.

I recommend this. but its pricey!

Just received my (Large) dry sack. Right away I knew it was too small. Not even close to fitting my -15 degree (regular size) Cabelas 3D semi-rectangle bag. Will have to find another use for it or save it for if/when I get a much smaller sleeping bag. Now afraid to order the XL, not sure if the extra few inches will even be enough to get the job done. Overall quality seems good since it held together after strongly trying to make my bag fit in it...thought it may rip at any time but did not, reason for 4 stars. Still on the too small side for me.

Great bag and nice that it compresses the air out. Some complain about the air going out too slow; I found that you compress the bag down (put a knee on it) and then roll it tight. The rest of the air left can then be squeezed out through the membrane. I used this on a back country canoe trip and it worked great for my cloths, sleeping bag and pillow (XL).

As my husband and I are daft enough to do camping weekends on our motorcycles during the winter months, warm sleeping bags are obviously important!! I recently purchased a bag designed to appeal to Carp fishermen..its a lovely warm and roomy bag which unfortunately rolled up to the size of a small Dinghy!! I purchased the Sea to summit XL compression dry sack and am happy to report that it compressed my Sleeping bag down to a much more managable size and has the added advantage of keeping it dry too (unlike the bag provided with it..)This has made packing it onto the bike much easier.. and will save me wrapping my gear in numerous bin bags which invariably disintergrate and let water in at speed... I'll let you know how it performs after a couple of outtings but I can certainly envisage purchasing more for my clothing etc...

Its now done several outings in all weathers and performed brilliantly... It is a very good piece of kit..Recommended!!

5.0 out of 5 stars perfekter wasserdichter Kompressionspacksack

Bought the extra large and now wish I bought a smaller one. I find the straps and top a little annoying when using loosely as a dry sack in a gig boat. Not yet used for purpose bought which was for my Kayak. The compression system works fine. Have not immersed sack in water to test capabilities.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compressed a tent to 1/3 of rolled size
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 4, 2010
This is one of the best compression sacks out there - the key is not only in being waterproof but in also allowing air to escape the bag you really can compress it down in a way that is just impossible with say exped rollsacks. For things like compressing and protecting a sleeping bag/tent this is crucial, particularly if you're backpacking, which i was recently and this kept my 3 man tent compressed to the size of less than a football. VVV impressive. Sidenote is that construction is excellent, straps are hardwearing and seams are double stitched and taped. OVerall a great buy for backpackers/campers/outdoorsy types :-)

A fantastic product that does a brilliant job so far. I have yet to test it's weatherproofing but in terms of how well it compacts and how durable it seems to be made this is a great buy.
