Beautiful enough to bring to the table, yet durable enough to outlive its 101-year warranty against defects, this heavy French oven is perfect for preparing and serving ceremonious dishes such as braised short ribs with sauerkraut, cassoulet, and vegetable soup. Use it in the oven or on the stovetop. Made of cast-iron, which is unexcelled for its heat distribution and retention, this French oven cooks foods evenly and gently without hot spots at low temperatures and is suitable for all heat sources. This pan holds 7-1/4 quarts, measures 11 inches in diameter, and its exterior and interior are clad in two coats of Le Creuset's famous bright enamel. The plastic knob on its heavy, tight-fitting lid is ovenproof to 450 degrees F. Loop handles facilitate carrying, and the oven is dishwasher-safe. Like all Le Creuset cast-iron products, it is hand-cast in a one-of-a-kind sand mold and hand-finished at the Le Creuset factory in France. --Fred Brack

This is our second Le Creuset french oven. I bought a huge 13 1/4 Le Creuset french oven a few years ago and we use it all the time. My husband is the chef in our family and he uses our Le Creuset cookware to make his stews, chili, gumbo, etc. For those who don't need to cook gigantic portions, the 7 1/4 qt french oven is plenty large enough enough to feed a family and still have leftovers. We've used many types of cookware over the years but find that the Le Creuset is better at heat distribution and also maintains the heat very well. The porcelain enamel covered cast iron cleans up very easily and our pots have held up beautifully with repeated use. So far we have had no problem with chips, scratches or discolorations. Granted, Le Creuset cookware is far from cheap, but will quickly become your favorite cookware. With proper care, these french ovens will last a lifetime and will probably be passed onto your next generation.

I am using my Le Creuset 7 1/4 Quart Cast Iron Oven as I speak. I love it!!!! I swear my soup tastes better!! It holds the heat, and I really think food cooks faster then in a regular stock pot. I love the color which matches my kitchen. I cook on gas heat and can regulate the flame to just hit the bottom of the pot. I bought a larger pot because I cook lots of soups but I know you can cook other meals then just soup. Haven't tried a pot roast yet but will. I researched all the different brands of cast iron and really was impressed with Le Creuset. It costs more but in reading many reviews realize that if taken good care of. it will last forever. Yes, it's heavy but probably the other brands are too. It's kept in a drawer just under the
gas cooktop so I don't have to pack it around. I intend to purchase several at Christmas for my daughter and daughter in law.
I purchased a tea pot several years ago for my daughter in law and she loves it. I am sold on Le Creuset!!!

Enameled cast iron is unsurpassed for low, slow cooking both in the oven and on the cook top. Cast iron retains heat better than any other type of pan. The advantage of enameled cast iron is that it's relatively non-stick and doesn't react with acidic ingredients like tomatoes. Yes, this Le Creuset dutch oven is heavy (though not as heavy as some other brands). And yes it needs proper care. Use only wood or plastic silicon implements. Always cool it down completely before rinsing. We use a very mild liquid dish detergent. Never, ever use anything abrasive. It may sound complicated but isn't. Take care of your Le Creuset and you should have a wonderful pan that lasts indefinitely. I read in a review of another Le Creuset product that the pans need seasoning. Not true!! Unlined cast iron pans need seasoning and sometimes re-seasoning. Enameled cast iron could be destroyed by seasoning.

My mother has had a le creuset dutch oven for about 25 years and I always envied the tight-fitting lid that keeps braised dishes from cooking dry over hours when my dutch oven (stainless Revere Pro) constantly ran dry. The price was an impediment to picking up this fantastic oven but I finally invested.

Wow. So far I have only used it to make roasts (pot roast and pork loin) but each time the results are extremely tender and flavorful meat, with great drippings for sauce. Cleanup is a snap.

One word of caution - read the directions first. I did and learned a couple of things like not using metal utensils (can leave silver marks or chip the enamel) and not using very high heat (this is intended for low to medium heat). I cannot recommend this highly enough - bon appetit!

I was so excited to finally have a Le Creuset dutch oven, and I ordered the 7 1/4 quart round one. I noticed right when I opened the box that the lid wobbled. I rotated the lid an inch at a time and kept retesting to see if maybe it needed to sit a certain way to fit correctly. It wobbled in every possible orientation. I examined the lid and there were three 'lumps' in the lip which apparently were causing it to not sit flat on the pan. I went to a local cookware store and was able to examine their Le Creuset ovens on display. Every one of theirs which I tested that was a round 5 1/2 or 7 1/4 quart size wobbled just like mine did. They did have a 9 quart round one whose lid did not wobble. I'm not sure what this means. Has Le Creuset quality gone downhill? Do certain size ovens have more of a problem than others? Should this particular oven have been sold on the 'seconds' market in an outlet store and somehow it got past their quality control? If I order another one, what are the chances its lid will also wobble? Mine also had a few pinholes in the enamel. If I had gotten mine at a sharply discounted 'seconds' price, I would have put foil over the pan before putting on the lid to make a nice tight fit and never given it a second thought. After all, if you're going to cook in this type of oven, you don't want all your steam to escape while cooking because the lid doesn't sit right. But for a first quality oven sold for a first quality price, I was very disappointed and I returned mine. Now I don't know what I'm going to do about it. I want a cast iron dutch oven like this one where I can be certain the lid will fit properly.

I bought a Le Creuset stockpot for my wife. She used it a few times to cook rice, then noticed a big hole in the enamel in the bottom of the pot. The pot is not high quality like I thought it was.

My wife is quite the chef but doesn't want to make it a profession. She has wanted one of these for 30+ years. All the cooking shows she watches use these and had a cow when I got this for her birthday. The price was a little shocking to me but her smile when she opened it was worth every penny. Heavy. Should last forever. 10 stars!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Qualität wie erwartet!
Reviewed in Germany on September 15, 2014

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 21, 2013
My only complaint is that it's heavy and awkward to carry home on the tube on a busy Friday night, because you though it would be easier to get it delivered to work than home..... But that was my error in judgement and not a reflection of the beauty and brilliantness of the pot itself!

I didn't hesitate to rate this 5/5 as it is 100% perfect. I have wanted one of these for ages and so very glad I finally made the leap and invested in one. Love the colour and size, it's big but that's what you need for reducing casseroles and sauces. Made a big vat of chilli last night which came out perfectly. Going to attempt Boeuf Bourguinon next weekend and then Coq au Vin and frankly I can't wait!! Perfect food for this sort of weather, which I couldn't have done before purchasing this.
