About this item

  • Cotton
  • Swaddling has been around for ages as it helps to prevent the startle reflex. But forcing the baby’s arms to their sides or over their chest prevents two natural behaviors that frustrate the baby and they fight to get their hands free.
  • First - Over 90% of babies sleep with their ARMS UP around their head when placed on their back to sleep. This is simply a baby’s natural and preferred way to sleep, just like in the womb!
  • Second - All babies are born with the need to SELF-SOOTHE by touching their face and sucking on their hands as they did in the womb. This medically proven behavior is how a baby calms and falls asleep on their own. Traditional swaddling prevents this.
  • The patented wings on the Swaddle UP allow the baby to both sleep with their arms in their preferred ARMS UP position and gives enough movement so they can SELF-SOOTHE, all while calming down the startle reflex.
  • The snug fit from our 4-way stretch fabric of 97% Cotton and 3% Elastane creates a familiar and secure feeling just like in the womb to calm the Moro (startle) reflex. Does not contain flame retardants or any harmful chemicals.
  • The dual zipper makes diaper changing a breeze and eliminates the need to remove the swaddle and having to completely re-swaddle the baby. The patented design eliminates any risk of loose fabric and the zipper replaces noisy Velcro or bothersome snaps.

  • Product Description

When you place your baby to sleep on their back, their natural position is for their arms to go up. The Love To Dream Swaddle UP Original features a patented design that allows you to swaddle your baby with their arms up in this more natural position. The medical reason behind baby's desire to have access to their hands is that when they wake up at night, they want to self-soothe, which is simply stroking their cheeks or sucking on their hands. If they are swaddled with their arms restricted, they cannot do this, which causes them to wake, get frustrated, and try to get out of traditional swaddles. The Swaddle UP is a stretchy blend of Cotton and Elastane designed to be snug and cozy around their torso, contain baby's arms, and thereby calm the startle reflex, encouraging a long, restful night's sleep for Mom and baby. The Swaddle UP is safer than swaddling your baby with traditional blankets. With the Swaddle UP, there are no difficult wrapping techniques required and no risk of dangerous loose blankets in your baby's crib. The Swaddle UP's dual zippered design allows you to do diaper changes while keeping baby swaddled and has no pesky snaps, noisy Velcro or tricky wrapping, ensuring that your baby stays comfortably swaddled all night. In addition, the Swaddle UP has plenty of room for baby to move their legs and hips, and recently received recognition from the International Hip Dysplasia Institute (IHDI) as being a 'Hip Healthy' product. The Love To Dream Original Swaddle UP is Stage 1 in Love To Dream's 3 Stage Sleep System. Since 2008, Love To Dream has been finding simple, yet genius solutions to everyday parenting and baby needs. The best news of all is that our products work. So everyone in the family will achieve a better night's sleep. Functionality, usefulness and innovation are key for Love To Dream.

Wow this is an excellent innovation! Simple and smart. My 3 months old was giving me a hard time to sleep since he didn't want to be swaddled (he would fight to get out of it) but he also wasn't ready to sleep without it because of startle reflex. After a few nights of getting up several times a night, I researched aid items on anaconda and purchased two things: the dock a tot pillow and this swaddle up. I tried the dockatot by itself with no success. But when I started dressing my baby up with this swaddle he went back to sleep well again through the night. Most of the nights he goes from 10pm to 5/6am. It's been 3 weeks of my purchase and just a few nights my baby woke up in the middle of it. I recommend this product and will get the 50/50 option as soon as he outgrows this one! Yes, I recommend it for anyone to give it a try!!

This is a very good sleep sack, designed to minimize the moro reflex all newborns have, but to allow the natural use of their hands near there face is a wonderful design. My DS has his hands near his face all the time, and hated when I swaddled him with his arms down, but his reflex was strong and would startle him in his sleep, waking up every so often. Unlike other swaddlers, this one allowd him to wiggle a bit, which is normal as well, and I feel good about him being in it. The lite version is great for the warm months of summer, and the double sided zipper is an added bonus. I ordered the medium for an 11 pound infant, and even though there was room to grow longer, his hands and neck area had no extra fabric to deal with, so it worked well. I wish for more designs, but for the price this is a quality sleep sack, and with the added safety and healthy design, I will reorder as he grows bigger, and eventually get the one with the arms that come off.

This is a must have! From the beginning my daughter did not like to be swaddled because of her arms. We bough the Swaddle Up with the original fabric for her when she was small. She quickly outgrew it and when going to buy the next size up I discovered that there is the "lite" fabric version which I was excited to try out. It's so sheer and i know she doesn't overheat. She loves being able to move her hands down to her mouth which she sometimes uses to comfort. the little hands get wet sometimes but they dry quickly and I wash very frequently. It's not too tight on her that she can't move around, but I know it keeps her feeling snug and comfortable. We did try several types of swaddles before settling on the swaddle up and I will say swaddle up has been the best by far. The only one that she immediately falls asleep when put into because she doesn't feel hot/constricted or uncomfortable. Plus because her arms are out she does not roll over! Worth every penny and peace of mind!

So we got these for sour sixth baby since she had an incredible startle reflex-even for a newborn. Her therapist recommended this to help and it certainly did. For a while she could only sleep in this or be happy in the car in this (there's a slit you can put the seat buckle through). BUT our baby loves to suck her hands and it would soak through this fabric. I washed it every night but one day it STUNK - like yeasty omg yuck. That same day her and I developed thrush BAD. I'm sure it was coming after weeks of sucking on her bag but it hit hard. We had to throw away the bag and have spent the last three months on and off meds after trying tons of home remedies to kill all the yeast between her and I. SO the bag is great for keeping baby feeling safe and secure. But if your kiddo sucks their hands- be cautious! It breeds yucky bacteria 😖

I'm not going to pretend that this product is a magic pill and my five week old is sleeping eight hours. He's not. He's a decent sleeper but he is going through a rather hungry phase... Anywho, my sister gave me this. Her son hated it apparently. We had not been successful with swaddles. He fought to get his hands free and always succeeded with muslin blankets and velcro swaddles. Then we tried the Woombie. That actually worked for like a week because he could touch his face. But then that stopped working. He slept really well unswaddled because he could have his hands above his head. But he would slap himself awake because babies are ridiculous. So when I went through the box of larger clothes that my sister sent me and saw this, I figured, why not? I mean, it was free.

It works. It's slightly large because it's a medium and he is only eleven pounds. But it still fits, so I'd size up if you're on the fence. It keeps him from scratching his eyeballs out in his sleep and allows him to self soothe. How long he sleeps honestly depends on how much he eats, but at least he isn't waking up for a dumb reason like hitting himself. It is also a good sleep association for him, but any swaddle will do that.

So no, it isn't magic. Either your baby is a sleeper and has a large enough stomach capacity to sleep the night, or he isn't/doesnt. But this is a good way to swaddle babies that aren't fans of the traditional swaddle.

So badly wanted to give this 5 stars because my baby sleeps so good in this. However, the fabric is poor quality....my sons fingers poked a hole in this. (I always keep his nails very short, so it's definitely not that he has long nails). The fabric is thin (hence the 'lite' in the name)....and very breathable...but apparently so thin, that fingers can eventually make a hole in the fabric.

It zips up so it's easy and much more quiet than Velcro swaddles. It looks funny. Our baby loves having her arms up near her face when she sleeps though, and she can put her hands in her mouth and feels comforted while wearing this. She sleeps all night at 3 months old. We ordered small and medium as she grew. This is a great product. Once she started rolling over, we moved her to a Zipadee Zip and she's sleeping all night again. She really likes having her arms and hands covered. Love that Amazon offers these products with quick shipping too!

So many people rave about this but I am so disappointed. In theory it's a great idea, our little one slept great being swaddled tightly in another product but if she was awake she fought to get her arms free. I thought this would help her be more comfortable. Well the issue is she is more comfortable, too comfortable to the point where she doesn't sleep at all in this swaddle because it's not really a swaddle. It allows her too much movement and does not help with the startle reflex. This seems like more of a product you would use If you were trying to transition your baby out of swaddling. So for now for my two month old we will go back to the other company swaddle that works great for her.
