Product Description

Emile Henry Flame-Top ceramic cookware is light and versatile, an innovative breakthrough in ceramics technology. Our new line of Burgundy Clay Flame-Top ceramics products work directly on a gas flame or an electric or halogen hob without a diffuser, without any fear of cracking or breaking. Much lighter, (30% lighter), than many types of comparable metal cookware products, Flame-Top is microwave and dishwasher-safe, cleans up very easily, is extremely strong and durable, goes under the broiler, and can go directly from a freezer or a refrigerator to a hot oven to the table, where it will retain the cooking heat for a very long time. Unlike most metal cookware products, Flame-Top cookware can sit on a very hot open flame for an extended period of time without any ingredients in the cook pot, and they will not crack, discolor or break. Perfect for braising, browning and slow cooking due to the incredibly gentle heat distribution properties of Burgundy Clay, Flame-Top products cook evenly and thoroughly when used on top of the stove, in the oven or even in the microwave. Enhancing this gentle cooking action are raised dots on the underneath side of each lid that evenly distribute evaporated juices directly back into the cooking food. This self-basting technique produces a more thoroughly cooked, tender and moist dish than with traditional lids, which force liquids to run down the sides of the pot, and which contribute to even cooking. Emile Henry Flame-Top ceramic cookware is light and versatile, and better brings out the flavors of all cooked foods.

Many reviews on tagine cooking sites said this is the tagine to buy....and they were right. I put this up there with my All-Clad French Oven Roaster. Timeless quality, will pass on to my kids, looks beautiful and cooks food on a different level. I would absolutely suggest to buy the 3.7 qt. It's not too big and you will always want leftovers (if you have any). You also need the space to brown the meat without overcrowding. It browns food very nicely and cooks it quickly and evenly and tender. Only problem is storage-I leave it on my cooktop, but the outside gets dirty. Top, top quality product with beautiful design and excellent function. Worth the expensive price-I picked it as a Christmas present from my In-laws.

I ordered this not long ago. The first one arrived damaged, as it was poorly packaged for shipping. But returning it and getting a replacement was simple and quick. Since then I've used it twice, and so far I'm very pleased. It works beautifully, isn't too heavy, and has a good capacity. I think cooking with a tagine is underrated/underused. The dishes I've prepared so far have been incredibly flavorful, with far less spicing or fat than I typically use in other dishes. I agree with some other reviewers that it's not so easy to clean. You also really need to keep the temperature relatively low--things on the bottom start to burn very easily if the heat is much higher than a simmer. Even so, for results like this I'm willing to be careful with it.

I bought this for my 22-year old daughter for Christmas because she loves to cook recipes from this part of the world. Fortunately, she is living with us at the moment, so I can enjoy tagine cooking as well! Food preparation is easy -- much as for a crock pot -- but the results are ready to eat in a short time. Food does stick to the bottom in the shape of the flame on our gas stove, but soaking makes it very easy to remove. I'm glad I selected the larger size, even though it made it that much more expensive, because it holds so much more. It would be a shame not to share food this good with friends. There were a couple of minor flaws in the finish of the one I originally purchased, but Amazon exchanged it with no problem, and the replacement was fine.

so sad as the food is burning! I did everything seasoned it with the milk, slow flame, enough broth and it is burning any suggestions?

Although the Emile Henry 3.7 quart tagine would be a striking addition to any kitchen, I'm afraid it's fairly delicate and not intended for the rigors of shipping. During my first use of the tagine, a sizeable piece of the lid chipped off when I gently placed it handle-side down on my countertop. Amazon graciously allowed me to return the tagine for a replacement; unfortunately, the base of the new tagine arrived in pieces.

Under no circumstances am I careless or rough with any of my kitchenware, so I'd have to caution anybody who doesn't have an extremely delicate touch to think twice before purchasing this tagine.

This is a great way to cook good, healthy food. My wife and I have lost over 140 lbs between us in the last year. Being as bad as a reformed smoker we are very careful about what we eat. This Tagine is the perfect size for cooking for two people without having to either over-eat or deal with leftovers. This kind of cooking takes a fair amount of prep-time but most recipes can be started and on the plate ready to eat in about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes. Only problem is my wife likes mild and I like spicy. One lamb dish I made used one red chili and I was in heaven but my wife said it was too hot for her. If you can agree on the amount of heat to put in your meals you can't miss with this Tagine. We are using it about three times a week with chicken, lamb, and beef dishes.

I recently got interested in Moroccan food, and splurged on this tagine. It was well worth the price. Though I've only used it once so far, I produce a fabulous meal with minimal effort. It's sturdy, well made, easy to clean. I was also happy that I bought the larger size.

Love this pot. I really don't use it for any kind of exotic Morocan cooking but what I have cooked, it's great. I cook one pot meals such as stews and it goes from searing on the stove top, to the oven, and then to the dining table. It's also easy cleaning. Even if you don't use it to cook, it's great just for serving. Heat it up a little and place your pasta dishes in it to keep warm until the guests arrive. Thinking about getting the smaller one. It's also durable. No cracks yet....

5.0 out of 5 stars I am very happy with the tagine
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 29, 2014
I am very happy with the tagine. I have cooked about 6 or seven dishes in it now and each have been wonderful. My only to comments about the product are the color red is not as rich as the photo (I particularly wanted this one as I have a new red kitchen and it looks a little more brown than the pictures indicate) and (b) cleaning the bottom of it is not easy. there seems to be an area where the bottom gets burned each time (although I do have to admit that I use this on industrial burners in my kitchens) even though I have chosen (because of the strength of my burners) to put on a diffuser. It's not a big deal as this doesn't affect the food taste, I put it in soak overnight and it's hubby's job to clean it in the morning. The real real positive about this product is that one can do the sauteeing and browning of meat etc in the pot - I have used on Ceramic in UK, and on very high velocity burners (much higher than can be used in UK due to health and safety reasons) in thailand where I brought the tagine out to. No cracking at all - so overall I am very pleased with the product and it has given me a new interest in a different cookery style

Dealing with Golda's Kitchen was so easy. Fast processing and even faster delivery. The Tagine arrived in it's box within a box, very well packed and protected.
The Tagine is a beautifully made and impressive piece of cookware, the quality is outstanding. Great size for cooking and serving. What ever you cook in this will impress your friends as you place the beautiful Tagine on the table straight from the oven. I was amazed at how I was able to get meat sizzling on a low heat setting. I can see my Tagine becoming one of my more versatile cooking tools and will be using it for much more than "Moroccan", "Arabic" style cooking. It sits proud in my kitchen and is already a conversation starter when people see it on the shelf!

My wife and I had promised ourselves a Tagine for quite a while, finally got round to it and ordered this one over the less expensive alternatives on the "Get what you pay for" premise. We were not to be disappointed, it arrived swiftly, securely packaged, and exactly as ordered. The Tagine is extremely well made, you get the feeling that barring accidents it will last for many years to come. Cooking in it is a doddle, follow recipes or let your imagination run wild (within reason), food is always succulent and does not dry out, enough food for 4 healthy eaters can be prepared in one go. It is dishwasher safe. Can be used on the hob, however as we have an induction Hob we cannot try this out. A simple idea that works, just be careful not to drop it on your foot.
